Staying in shape is a BITCH!

I've noticed that my metabolism has slowed down in the past two years or so. Some say it happens when one gets married :) While the timing of my wedding might suggest this as the cause in my case, I tend to think it's just the first sign of getting older...yikes. Metabolisms slow down naturally, but there are things one can do to get it going faster again.

Too bad I hate most of those things. I've always hated exercise. It's not fun, and it takes a good amount of time to get any results. I've considered many other things more important like studying and working. However, it seems that if I don't want my body to change dramatically, I should set exercise as a priority. Over-eating or eating total crap has never been a problem for me. I just need to be more active.

I've been doing something in the way of exercise 5 days a week for about a month now, and I can tell a difference by looking at myself. My hips are slimmer, there is some definition in my legs, and I have abs! However, I'm not really seeing it on the scale yet. I was already a healthy weight when I started, so I'm not too concerned about the numbers on a scale. I'm more interested in how clothes look on me :) I swim, do yoga, cardio (which I extra, special hate), and strength training. I try to stagger them so that I don't get too bored.

Ergh...I hate it, really I do.

Started up again :)

I've decided to start this thing up again :) It still probably won't be too exciting, but it's something to do.

I guess I've just been enjoying my break from school. I'm taking my professors' advice and taking advantage of my last summer break. Next summer, I'll still have practicum until the end of July, so it won't be the same.

I've taken this time to start eating better and working out. I actually have some muscle definition and more energy, so that's motivation enough for me! There's a pool about 20 feet from our house, so that's my exercise of choice. I really like yoga as well, but the cat likes to walk around and on me when I'm on the floor. It makes me laugh so hard, I fall down :)

In other news, Brian got two jobs! He's working full time at the Minnesota Department of Health tracking the flu. He will go down to 20 hours a week once school starts up again. He's also going to be a T.A. this fall as well! YAY working! I wish I could have a job, but it is "not recommended" by my program especially once practicum starts. Every once in a while I have moments of, "Oh shit, I'm going to have REAL patients in less than a month!!!" I know this will be another learning curve, but I'll get through it. However, anyone who knows me knows that I'm pretty tough on myself when I'm learning something new.

Bye for now!
